Both SMC and FRP belong to resin based composite materials, but there are many differences:
The material composition and price are different: SMC raw materials are more than twice as expensive as FRP.
The molding process is different: SMC must be formed using large hydraulic machinery and metal molds, and undergo one-time hot pressing and solidification under high temperature and pressure; The traditional FRP process uses wooden molds and is produced by manual hand laying, followed by natural drying and demolding.
The product quality is different: SMC products are made of the same material from the surface to the back, which is formed by high-temperature and high-pressure heat curing, with high density, high strength, and reliable quality; FRP products are divided into multiple levels such as gel coat, fiberglass cloth, and wooden board, which are formed by hand laying process and are greatly affected by the quality of workers and weather, resulting in unstable quality.
